MANHATTAN — Riding the New York City subway is not always the most pleasant experience, especially when a rat crawls up your leg and onto your face.
A YouTube video posted on Wednesday shows a large rat scurrying along the floor of a half-empty subway car before crawling up the leg of a sleeping man and onto his face.
The video was shot on the 4 train as it traveled through Brooklyn near Franklin Avenue on Tuesday, according to NYCtheBlog.
It begins with footage of the rat running along the floor on one end of the subway car before racing the length of the car to the other side. Later a passenger is seen lifting up his legs as the rat runs past.
However, one unlucky straphanger was taking a snooze and did not initially notice as the rodent ran up his trousers before ending up on his face. The rat jumped off the man when he abruptly awoke and waved his arm at it.
"If you see a suspicious package or activity on the train don't keep it to yourself," an announcer can be heard saying over the subway car speaker in the video. No announcements about protocols involving rats on the subway can be heard.
There's no information on whether the rat got off in Brooklyn or continued on to Manhattan and the Bronx.
