CHELSEA — For West side residents craving fancy doughtnuts like vanilla bean glaze, Valrhona chocolate and tres leches, the wait may soon be over.
Signs of life are finally appearing at the Doughnut Plant's newest location in Chelsea. The doughnut franchise, which is already a Lower East Side favorite, announced plans in January to open a second store in the famed Chelsea Hotel.
The eatery's "Doughnut Plant New York City" logo appeared on the façade last weekend, Eater reported. Thursday morning, a worker peeled paint away from the entrance at 220 W. 23rd Street.
But owner Mark Israel said Thursday he's still not prepared to predict an opening date.
"I'm just going moment by moment, day by day," he said. When asked if an opening by the December holidays was likely, Israel said, "We would love to be open by then."
The menu at the bakery's 379 Grand Street location is currently offering seasonal specialties including pumpkin and cranberry.
When the new Chelsea storefront does open, Israel promises the menu will feature "some surprises."
