WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A two-alarm fire left families rattled, but safe, early Sunday morning at a co-op apartment building in Hudson Heights.
Flames plumed from the second floor of the six-story building at 125 Cabrini Boulevard when fire crews arrived at the scene shortly after 2 a.m., according to an FDNY spokesman.
The building was completely evacuated before the fire was extinguished at approximately 2:36 a.m., according to officials.
No injuries were reported, an FDNY spokesman said.
George Lytle, who lives right above the second floor apartment where the fire began, said he was not home during the fire. But he discovered considerable damage upon returning to his home on Sunday, he said.
"You can see that fire was coming up through the floorboards inches away from our curtains," he said. "But I can’t complain about cleaning a single shard of glass — another five minutes and our apartment would be gone."
