MANHATTAN — New bus lanes and sidewalk-located fare machines will make for a speedier commute from Sunday for some Upper East Side residents, the New York Daily News reported.
The First and Second Avenue makeover went into effect over the weekend, making pick-ups quicker between Houston and 125th Sts.
In addition to the machines, which allow commuters to pre-pay fares before boarding the bus, Manhattan also reinforced the East Side police presence so that the bus lanes are kept clear, the News reported.
Improved bike lanes have also been installed from 72nd to 125th Streets.
The improved transportation model is already in effect on the West Side along Eighth and Ninth Aves.
