MANHATTAN — The NYPD has released a sketch of a man suspected of groping two women before stealing their cellphones on the Upper West Side in recent weeks.

The man struck first on Sept. 26 abound 12:40 a.m. inside a building near Manhattan Avenue and Columbus Avenue, police said. He sexually assaulted a 24-year-old woman inside an elevator, then stole her cellphone and fled, police said. The victim was hospitalized with minor injuries at Bellevue Hospital, police said.

The attacker had previously struck on May 2, groping a 30 year old woman inside a building elevator in the same neighborhood and stealing her cellphone before leaving, police said.

Police described the suspect as being a black man between the ages of 25 and 33, standing 6 foot tall to 6 foot three, and weighing approximately 205 pounds. Police said he was last seen wearing a blue shirt with dark jeans and white sneakers.
