CENTRAL PARK — The streets of Central Park were covered in pink on Sunday morning as tens of thousands of runners turned out for the 20th annual Race for the Cure in New York City.
The biggest 5K on the Big Apple's racing calendar featured appearances by TV personalities including Stephen Colbert, Dr. Oz and Gabrielle Union.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney also made an appearance, giving a speech about the importance of federal funding for breast cancer and prostate cancer research.
Barbra Kay, a Brooklyn resident who was volunteering at the event, said she had participated in it for the past three years after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.
"I wanted to be here to support her and her fight," she said.
The race started at Central Park West on 77th Street and wove uptown to 90th Street, before crossing through the park.
