GREENWICH VILLAGE — A woman jumped into the Hudson River in Chelsea Tuesday afternoon and was rescued by an FDNY boat.

The woman entered the water near West 20th Street and the West Side Highway, according to FDNY reports. The FDNY arrived on the scene six minutes after receiving reports at 3:39 p.m. that she had jumped in.

The FDNY brought her to the shore near Pier 40 at West Houston Street, where ambulances then took her to Beth Israel Hospital. She appeared to be in stable condition, according to the FDNY.

Bystanders near Pier 40 said the women walked on her own from the FDNY boat to the ambulance gurney.

FDNY officers did not know whether she jumped from the waterfront or a boat.
