UPPER WEST SIDE — National home furnishings retailer HomeGoods will open its first Manhattan location early next year at the Upper West Side's Columbus Square.

The big-box furniture and home decor store has leased 5,732 square feet on the ground floor and 20,671 square feet below ground at 795 Columbus Ave. between West 98th and West 99th streets, according to a release from Winick Realty, the retail broker for Columbus Square.

HomeGoods hasn't set a specific opening date, but the company plans to open its Manhattan location in the first quarter of 2011, said Winick Realty spokeswoman Michelle Loeb.

HomeGoods has 300 locations nationwide. It sells discounted furniture, bedding, kitchen and dining supplies, lighting, rugs and other home furnishings.

The store is the last big-box tenant to lease space at Columbus Square, a retail and residential complex that's also home to Whole Foods, Petco, Michael's Arts and Crafts, TJ Maxx and Sephora, Loeb said.

Winick touted HomeGoods as "the only big-box home furnishings store in this area of the Upper West Side," aside from Raymour & Flanigan on West 66th Street and Broadway.
