MANHATTAN — Rapper Kanye West's contributions to the Twitterverse are inspiring users to use his tweets as captions for New Yorker cartoons.

Started by comedic duo Paul and Storm, captioning the magazine's cartoons has become a popular trending topic on Twitter, #kanyenewyorkertweets. Variations on the creators' original mashups have spread throughout the Twitterverse, as other users have created their own captioned cartoon creations and uploaded them alongside the hashtag.

Searching for the hashtag on Twitter will bring up the captioned images, and even Kanye himself — who only joined Twitter last week — likes the phenomenon.

"[T]hey put my tweets with NewYorker cartoons hilarious!!," West tweeted on Tuesday.

The New Yorker finds the concept funny as well, as the magazine's Twitter account retweeted the rapper's comment, adding their approval with, "We agree!"
