UPPER WEST SIDE — A fire broke out on in a maintenance shed on the roof of an Upper West Side apartment building Monday morning.

Three ladder trucks arrived on the scene at 55 West 83rd St. just after 11:30 a.m. and were able to put the fire out before it spread to the rest of the building, fire officials said.

Black smoke billowed from the roof while firefighters battled the blaze, said a witness, who declined to give her name and lives across the street.

West 83rd Street was blocked off from traffic from Central Park West to Columbus Avenue for at least a half hour.

There were no reported injuries and the FDNY is investigating the cause of the fire.
