UPPER EAST SIDE — East side congressional candidate Reshma Saujani's campaign said Thursday that rival Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney agreed to debate her when the two met at a Queens community event Wednesday night.

But Maloney's camp responded that while the women exchanged pleasantries, the two did not make any agreement to debate.

Saujani has pushed for a debate with Maloney for almost two months, a time period marked by a running clock on her website's homepage.

"A series of debates will help voters reclaim the broken and dysfunctional system of politics in New York, which has prevented them from having a real choice in the 14th district for nearly two decades," Saujani said in a statement Thursday, taking a dig at Maloney's 18 years in office.

Reshma Saujani's campaign said that Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney agreed to a debate for the District 14 congressional seat but Maloney's camp said there was no such agreement.

Maloney's campaign said that she was working on current congressional issues and didn't have time to think about a debate.

"Right now, the Congresswoman is focused on getting the Wall Street reform bill signed into law and ensuring the passage of the 9/11 Healthcare & Compensation Act," said Alix Anfang, a spokeswoman for Maloney.
