MANHATTAN — Following weeks of pleading, cajoling and even gift-giving, New York will finally gets its answer from LeBron James on Thursday night.
King James will announce the team that he will sign with during a one-hour special on ESPN at 9 p.m. on Thursday, the network reported.
Reps for James contacted ESPN with the proposal that he make the announcement on their show, sources told ESPN "The Magazine's" Chris Broussard.
Broussard's sources said that in an unusual move, LeBron's reps requested the right to sell the sponsorships for the special, with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America receiving all the proceeds, ESPN.com reported.
The network agreed to the proposal, but has not yet been given the final okay on the deal from LeBron.
The basketball superstar visited six teams during his free agency, including the New York Knicks and the New Jersey Nets.
The Knicks agreed to a five-year, $99.7 million contract with power forward Amar'e Stoudemire on Monday with the hopes of using him to lure James to the Big Apple. They'll see if it was money well spent on Thursday night.
