UPPER WEST SIDE — An Upper West Side senior center was evacuated after a fire broke out in closet late Wednesday afternoon, FDNY said.

The FDNY and an EMT unit responded to a call from the Hamilton Senior Center on 141 West 73rd St. at 5:18 p.m. They arrived to find a small fire in one of the first floor closets and quickly put out the blaze, said emergency responders on the scene. There were no reproted injuries. FDNY said.

“They’ve been smelling smoke in the center since lunch,” said David Gillcrist, executive director of Project Find, which operates out of the center. “The smoke became very overpowering around four thirty.”

Building workers were able to reenter the center around 6 p.m.
