LOWER MANHATTAN — Downtown baseball fans going to the Yankees season opener Tuesday can skip the cramped subway cars and hop aboard the Yankee Clipper, a water taxi that goes straight from Lower Manhattan to the home of the Bronx Bombers.

The ferry is operated by NY Waterway and departs from Pier 11 at the South Street Seaport located at the intersection of Wall Street and the FDR Drive.

The party boat takes about 55 minutes to get to the ball park, but the slow trip gives riders a chance to take in Manhattan skyline from the East River as the boat travel north under the Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queensboro Bridges.

Riders can buy food and drinks on the ferry, including alcoholic beverages for the tailgate crowd.

Anxious fans looking to maximize their time at Yankee Stadium for the team's home opener against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday can get on a boat as early as 10 a.m.

The water taxi drops passengers near the stadium parking lot along the Harlem River, which is a 12-minute walk to the field.

The boat returns to Manhattan from the Bronx 30 minutes after the last pitch is thrown, a NY Waterway spokesperson said.

There are also water taxi pick-ups on other ferries heading to the Bronx at East 34th Street and West 38th Street.

Round trip tickets on the Yankee Clipper cost $22 and the water taxi service is offering a $5 discount with game tickets for all April games, according ot the NY Waterway Web site.
