CENTRAL PARK — A tree more than 100-years-old suddenly became uprooted over the weekend and slammed into a car on Fifth Avenue, witnesses and parks department workers said.

Central Park was full of people exercising on Saturday when the sprawling English Elm fell about midday Saturday near the East 93rd Street intersection. Police on the scene said it was lucky no one was injured.

"The uprooted tree was a product of the winter's excessively wet weather," a spokesperson for the Central Park Conservency said in e-mailed comments.

Earlier this year, a man was killed during a snow storm when a tree branch struck him in the head.

The tree fell across 5th Ave. and 93rd Street.
