WEST VILLAGE — A small fire broke out in a second floor apartment of a five-story walk up on Bank Street Thursday morning.

The fire was likely caused by an overheated steam radiator that, over a matter of decades, broke down the wood floors of the apartment and caused them to catch fire, according to FDNY officials at the scene.

The fire affected the second floor apartment and the apartment below. Residents of those apartments will have to find another place to stay, the FDNY said.

A 911 call alerted the FDNY to the blaze around 10:24 a.m. No injuries were reported.
