MANHATTAN — Mayor Michael Bloomberg's fortune isn't as fast as it used to be.
Bloomberg slid six spots to 23rd on the latest Forbes' World's Billionaires list.
The mayor dropped from the No. 17 spot, which he held last year, even though his fortune actually increased from $16 billion to $18 billion, Forbes reported.
Carlos Slim, a Mexican billionaire who is the new part owner of the New York Times, tops the list with a net worth of $53.5 billion, just ahead of Microsoft founder Bill Gates' estimated $53 billion, according to Forbes.
Slim climbed ahead of Gates and Warren Buffett who had been No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in 2009. Buffett, the CEO of Bershire Hathaway, is now third on the list with an estimated fortune of $47 billion.
Despite the recent fiscal troubles of the newspaper industry, Slim's NYT holdings rose 187 percent in the last year, Mediabistro reported.
