MANHATTAN — The latest snow to hit Manhattan fell far short of last week's blizzard, but was still annoying evening commuters with slippery streets and icy winds.

Throughout the day, Manhattan saw a mixture of snow, freezing rain and sleet until it tapered off around 6 p.m. Most of the snowfall did not stick to the streets or the pavement because the temperatures hovered around freezing all day.

However, slippery roads and sidewalks were making for tricky commuting conditions this evening.

Most schools remained open and alternate side parking rules were in effect Tuesday morning.

By 11 a.m., heavy flakes were coming down hard, replacing rounds of light sleet and snow from earlier in the morning that made for a messy commute.
