MIDTOWN WEST — A robber donning a blond wig made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from a Midtown Capital One bank branch on Thursday afternoon, police sources said.

The robber, who police describe as a 40 year-old white male who is six feet tall and approximately 165 pounds, walked into the bank branch, at 1001 Sixth Avenue, and slipped a teller a note demanding cash. The man was unarmed, according to police at the scene.

The teller co-operated with the robber's demands by handing over a sizable wad of cash.

"The teller gave him a stack of singles to make it look like more money than it was," said a police source.

The man was wearing a blue bandana on his head, a beige jacket, brown pants and a blond wig, NYPD reported. He managed to flee the scene before police arrived and was still at large Thursday evening.

A police source said that the Major Case Squad was already familiar with the suspected robber, as he had committed prior robberies and fell under what the officer called a "robbery pattern."
