WEST VILLAGE — A small fire broke out in a large container of nuts at Koppers Chocolate factory in the West Village on Tuesday morning.

The fire started in a 10-pound vat of almonds that was being used to make chocolates.

Heavy smoke from the fire prompted a call to the fire department around 9:40 a.m. The FDNY arrived at the Clarkson Street factory and quickly put out the small fire.

A Koppers co-owner told DNAinfo that the fire was very small and compared it to the size of a kitchen fire someone could experience in his or her own home.
