Mayor Bloomberg and MTA officials toured the new stop on the Number 7 subway extension Wednesday at Hudson Yards.
The $2.1 billion project is the first extension in decades. It was built by machines which drilled 2,900 feet from 26th Street and 11th Avenue. The next connection is headed north from the new station of 34th Street to 42nd Street.
The new stations come as the MTA is facing so-called ‘doomsday cuts’ which will result in slower service and more crowded trains.
Bloomberg News also reported Wednesday that the MTA may get $350 million less from a new payroll tax than it projected two months ago.
