Unidentified White Powder Found in Downtown Federal Building

MANHATTAN — An unidentified white powder was found at a federal building in the Municipal District on Wednesday afternoon, causing a stir for several hours.

Hazmats units were dispatched shortly after 2:30 p.m. to 26 Federal Plaza. After an investigation that lasted several hours, police said the powder was harmless.

The building houses several high-profile agencies, including US Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Social Security Administration and Army Corps of Engineers.
