MANHATTAN — The medical examiner’s office identified two more victims of the 9/11 terrorism attacks on Thursday.
One of the women was discovered during a renewed search for remains three years ago, which stretched well beyond ground zero to encompass building tops all the way to the Hudson River, the Associated Press reported.
Fragments of the other victim’s remains were indentified using new DNA technology developed in 2006, the AP said. A total of 25 victims of the World Trade Center attacks have been identified with this new technology.
More than 21,000 remains found after 9/11 have not been identified due to heat and other factors, but the city is retesting them using the new technology.
Currently 1,100 of the 2,750 people who died have yet to be identified.
