MANHATTAN — Brooklyn City Councilman Simcha Felder will resign from the City Council in order to join Comptroller John Liu’s office, officials announced Tuesday.

In an unusual pairing — both men are outspoken, but they are usually on opposite sides of the fence — Felder will become a deputy comptroller for Liu.

Liu has been a major critic of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and used his inauguration speech to say he would serve as a watchdog over city government for the people of New York.

Felder, on the other hand, is a Bloomberg advocate who supported the mayor’s successful bid to eradicate term limits.

"I look forward to using my professional and educational experience to help Comptroller Liu make sure taxpayer money is not wasted, especially during these challenging economic times," Councilmember Simcha Felder, said in a statement.

Liu also announced the appointments of Ricardo Elias Morales, Geneith Turnbull, H. Tina Kim and Carol S. Kostik as deputy commissioners.
