MANHATTAN — This year's Times Square New Year's Eve ball will have a little extra sparkle when it drops at midnight this Thursday.

Workers installed 288 Waterford Crystal triangles on the giant ball over the weekend.

The triangles are arranged in a ribbon pattern woven into a Celtic knot to represent the 2010 theme "Let There Be Courage."

The ball, which sits 400 feet in the air, is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, wind, snow and rain.

The numbers 'one' and 'zero' were also installed on top of Times Square after being delivered via pedicabs.

New Yorkers have celebrated New Year's Eve in Times Square since 1904.
