Manhattan travelers hoping to make the JFK-to-Heathrow trip this holiday season can breathe a sigh of relief after a planned Tuesday strike by the flight crews of British Airways was deemed illegal.
The airline won an emergency court order to stop its union from instituting a 12-day walk-out by 13,000 cabin crew workers.
“We are delighted for our customers that the threat of a Christmas strike has been lifted by the court,” British Airways said in a statement.
In addition to outward bound travelers, the Manhattan tourism industry, which counts on 1.3 million visitors from the U.K. a year, would have been adversely affected by the strike.
Nationwide, approximately 1 million people were expected to use British Airways flights.
