MANHATTAN — Emergency personnel responded to another report of a white powder sent to a diplomatic mission on the East Side.
This time it was the German consulate, and the incident follows an anthrax scare on Monday when letters containing white powder showed up at the United Nations missions of France, Austria and Uzbekistan, causing dozens of workers to be decontaminated.
The FBI, FDNY and various NYPD units responded to the latest incident and law enforcement officials said that the letter received at the German consulate was mailed from Texas, as were the three others.
Those letters were later deemed harmless.
"If you opened it, you would think it's suspicious," Richard J. Colko, an FBI spokesman, said about the letters.
All three letters found on Monday were postmarked from Dallas and one of them mentioned Al Qaeda, reported the Daily News.
More than 40 people in the offices had to undergo decontamination that required them to strip their clothes and shower. Police provided new garments for the employees.
There were no hospitalizations Monday night.
