MANHATTAN — The city is buying up more blocks to expand the elevated High Line Park in Chelsea.

"The northern part of the line is key to realizing the full 1.5-mile restoration and transformation of this extraordinary magical and unique public open space," Amanda Burden, city planning director, told the Daily News.

The first section of the park from Gansevoort Street to W. 20th Street opened this summer, and a second section stretching from 20th Street to 30th Street is slated to open next year.

A seven-month public review process will take place before the city enters final negotiations with The Related Cos., the development firm that currently holds the property rights to the land, Burden said.

It was unclear how much the addition would cost.

Eventually, the city would like the park to reach 34th St. and wind around the MTA West Side Rail Yards, the News reported.
