Hear more about the plans for Welles Park's new playground at a community meeting Thursday.

The changes are designed to make the second-annual vote more fair, 45th Ward officials said.

Five neighborhood meetings will be held in the coming weeks to determine the projects on the ballot.  

The garden is the first step toward transforming the empty landscape that surrounds the school.

Ten years after residents began working to renovate Merrimac Park, the playground opened Friday.

Parents have raised nearly $50,000 for a new playground, rain garden, running track and sports field.

Construction is set to begin in the fall, Principal Michelle Ludford said.

The top five projects chosen by residents in the participatory budget process  will be funded .

Residents of the 45th Ward will vote on how to spend $1 million.

Community groups can apply to be one of 35 chosen to get playground renovations in 2013.

Three expos will give residents a chance to learn more about the items up for a vote.
