Gale Elementary celebrated the life and spirit of Tianna Hollinside, a seventh-grader who died Tuesday.

This year sees new annexes, principals, grade levels and more in Rogers Park, Edgewater and West Ridge.

Cassandra Washington served as principal for seven years and recently rallied for better school funding.

For the first time, schools are required to pay for diverse learners themselves.

"Anything can happen to these children out here," said parent Jumaanee Rogers.

The school has declining enrollment, no librarians or technology teachers and faulty fire alarms.

Representatives from six Rogers Park and West Ridge schools will be there to help answer questions.

For kids using Howard Area Community Center services, the mile between campuses can mean life or death.

The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce wants to fill 100 backpacks with supplies by Aug. 21 for Gale kids.

Chicago Public Schools in Rogers Park saw a $559,841 decrease in funds based on lower enrollment rates.
