City Lit Books, 2523 N. Kedzie Blvd., will host Mac Lethal, author of "Texts from Bennett" at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.
A description of the Mac Lethal and his book from City Lit Books:
"'Texts from Bennett' began as a Tumblr, started by indie underground rapper Mac Lethal, where he chronicles the texts he receives from his seventeen-year-old, wannabe-gangster cousin Bennett. The Tumblr went viral, and was featured on the front page of Reddit, Gawker, CNN, Time Magazine, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, and shared on Facebook over 2 million times in 30 days. Now, in the epistolary novel based off the Tumblr, Texts From Bennett, Mac chronicles the year that Bennett and his family lose their home and move into Mac’s house. His wannabe gangsta cousin uses drugs and foul language, claims to be 13 percent black, and swears he speaks 'da female language.' But as different as they are, Mac learns that wannabe-Crips are thicker than water, that his little cousin—flawed, irreverent, and basically a Saturday morning cartoon gone horrible wrong—has become his mentor, and that he really has no idea what’s up with girls."
