COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A South Side man shot himself in his penis after robbing a West Pullman restaurant on Halloween, prosecutors said Thursday.
Terrion Pouncy, 19, remained hospitalized Thursday as he recovered from "a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the penis," according to a Chicago Police officer who testified during Pouncy's bond hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, 2650 S. California Ave.
Prosecutors allege Pouncy entered Maxwell Street Polish at 11656 S. Halsted St. about 6 a.m. Tuesday and ordered some food.
An employee recognized Pouncy as someone who had been loitering outside and around nearby homes earlier that day, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said.
After briefly standing in a doorway while he waited for his order, Pouncy pulled out a black .38-caliber revolver and pointed it at a 39-year-old employee's head, prosecutors said.
Pouncy then stole cash, a wallet and a cellphone before running away, according to Antonietti.
As he fled, prosecutors said, Pouncy accidentally shot himself in his penis while carrying the gun and stolen goods.
An employee who followed Pouncy saw him begin to hobble before sitting down on a bench and taking off his hoodie, Antonietti said. Pouncy then collapsed on a porch in the 700 block of West 116th Street, where he later was arrested, police said.
Pouncy, of the 11800 block of South Peoria Street, was rushed to Advocate Christ Hospital in serious condition; he later needed surgery. A booking photo was unavailable Thursday due to Pouncy's continued hospitalization.
Pouncy is now charged with armed robbery.
Cook County Judge Stephanie Miller denied Pouncy bail Thursday, calling him "a real and present threat to the safety of the community."
