BRIDGEPORT — More people who live near White Sox park will need a special permit to park near their homes — or face the prospect of getting ticketed and towed under a measure approved by a City Council committee Wednesday.

The full City Council is expected to consider the measure Nov. 8 that would expand parking restrictions near Guaranteed Rate Field, 333 W. 35th St.

The restrictions will be enforced two hours before each event and last until one hour after, according to the measure.

Parking permits are already required on the streets immediately around the ballpark. But the proposal would expand the permit-parking zone west from 29th Street and Wentworth Avenue to Wallace Street; south along Wallace Street to 31st Street and then west along 31st Street to Morgan Street.

From 31st and Morgan streets, permits would be required south to Pershing Road and Wentworth Avenue; and north along Wentworth Avenue to 37th Street, according to the proposal.

From 37th Street and Wentworth Avenue, permits would be required from Dearborn to 35th streets; and then west along 35th street to Wentworth Avenue and north to 29th Street. The permit parking area would also include the east side of Michigan Avenue between 34th Street and 35th Street, according to the proposal.

Halsted Street, 31st and 35th Streets and Pershing Road are excluded from the permit parking area, according to the proposal.

The special event parking permits are free for residents, officials said. Residents can also request guest passes, officials said.

Even those who park at a meter and pay the posted rate must still have a special event parking pass, as do those with residential zone passes.

Here's a map where the proposed restrictions would be put in place:
