MORGAN PARK — The Beverly Arts Center will host a Day of the Dead art class from 1-3 p.m. Saturday with Oaxacan artist Carlos Orozco.

Orozco will be guest instructor for the class at the center, 2407 W. 111th St. He will teach students to paint alebrijes — colorful carved wooden creatures popular in Mexican folk art. It costs $30 to participate in the class.

Orozco is founder and director of Puech Ikots, a collective of indigenous artists in Oaxaca, Mexico. All class participants will receive and paint an alebrije, hand carved by members of the group.

He will also share his firsthand experience with Day of the Dead traditions in Mexico.

Proceeds from the class will benefit the artists of the Puech Ikots. For more information and registration, call 773-445-3838 or visit beverlyartcenter.org.
