Watch Your Step In Lincoln Square — There's A Word Play Game Underfoot

LINCOLN SQUARE — Be sure to watch where you walk along Lincoln Avenue near Welles Park.

There's a game underfoot.

A giant word grid has been stenciled onto the sidewalk between Sunnyside and Montrose, courtesy of the David L. Hoyt Education Foundation.

Hoyt, the author of Jumble and other word games, designed the grid, dubbed Word Play Way. Youngsters at Lincoln Square's Bit Space makers lab created the letters, and students from North Park Elementary School helped paint the grid.

The puzzle contains more than 100 words, many in English and Spanish, scattered amid nearly 5,000 letters. Look for the names of dozens of neighborhood streets and landmarks (click here for the complete list).

The purpose of Word Play Way is to promote literacy and community interaction, according to the foundation.

The word grid will remain in place through April.
