BRIDGEPORT — Mark Sheridan Academy is set to receive a massive new expansion, and neighbors can help build the annex, according to Ald. Patrick D. Thompson (11th).

Thompson, Cook County Commissioner John Daley and the Public Building Commission are hosting two community hiring events that will seek to hire workers to help with the school's new annex. The hiring events will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday and at the same time on Oct. 30.

Both events will be held at the Bridgeport Art Center's sculpture garden, 1200 W. 35th St. (The sculptures are along Racine Avenue.)

An $8 million annex for Sheridan, 533 W. 27th St., was announced in September 2016 and will include a new gym, multipurpose room, cafeteria and expanded washrooms. The school was built in 1881 and was last renovated in 1901.
