Near West Side Shootings On Same Block Leave 1 Person Dead, 1 Wounded

CHICAGO — Two shootings on the same Near West Side block left one man dead and another man wounded between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, police said.

• At 1:43 a.m. Thursday, a 55-year-old man was driving in the 100 block of South Western Avenue when someone drove up to him and fired shots at his car, police said.

The man's shoulder blade was grazed by a bullet. He refused medical attention, police said.

• Just hours earlier, at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers went to the 100 block of South Western Avenue after there were reports of shots fired there, police said. The officers found a 28-year-old lying in an alley.

The man had been shot multiple times and he was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Dionysus English, of the 4300 block of South Champlain, was pronounced dead at 8:59 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

No one was in custody in these shootings.
