CHICAGO — Crews broke ground on a gas main replacement project Monday at the busy intersection of Devon and Harlem avenues, threatening to squeeze traffic and parking at the site until mid-to-late November, utility officials said.

The work will extend one block north to Onarga Avenue, and one block east to Neva Avenue, according to Vanessa Hall, a spokeswoman for Peoples Gas.

While the work is underway, Harlem will be narrowed to a single lane in each direction between Devon and Onarga, Hall said.

Occasional detours will reroute traffic via Milwaukee Avenue and Northwest Highway, Hall said.
