Homeowner Shoots, Critically Wounds Intruder, Police Say

CHICAGO — A homeowner shot a man trying to break into his Bronzeville home late Saturday, police said.

At 10:54 p.m., the homeowner, a 60-year-old man, said a man used a crowbar to force his way into his home in the 4500 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, police said.

The homeowner shot at the man, police said. The man, 44, was hit multiple times throughout his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

The homeowner has a valid firearm owner ID card and concealed-carry permit, according to police. Charges were pending for the 44-year-old  man, police said.
