DOWNTOWN — The Chicago Police Department is bringing technology it's crediting for a drop in crime to more districts.

Strategic Decision Support Centers will be installed in six districts: the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th and 25th, according to a Chicago Police news release. The centers combine technology with human expertise to help officers prevent and respond to crime.

The districts will also get more pod cameras, cellphones for officers on the streets and ShotSpotter technology that "listens" for gunshots and then tells police where they occurred.

Police have repeatedly credited the technology with helping officers reduce violent crime in the neighborhoods.

The technology is already in place in the 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 15th and 10th districts.
