SOUTH SHORE — South Side homeowners will have the chance to help protect themselves and their property at a security camera giveaway Saturday in South Shore.

Canary, a home security company, will give away 400 security cameras at its "Chicago Safe" event Saturday at Powell Elementary, 7511 S. South Shore Drive. The event will begin at 10 a.m.

Joining the company at the event will be new Bulls point guard Kris Dunn, ESPN Radio Chicago host Jonathan Hood and Ald. Greg Mitchell (7th), who will help hand out security cameras, according to the company.

Canary will be giving away a mix of its indoor and outdoor security cameras that have a range of "smart" features, a company spokeswoman said. Both indoor and outdoor cameras have smart-phone connectivity, which can send alerts and allow users to access live and recorded video on their phone, as well as one-touch access to first responders. Its indoor camera even has an air-quality monitor that detects temperature and humidity.
