MAGNIFICENT MILE — Firefighters rescued a painter after a platform collapsed while he was working on a Magnificent Mile high-rise about 10 floors up, officials said.

The incident occurred at 535 N. Michigan Avenue around 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to fire department spokesman Larry Langford.

"The scaffolding went bad," Langford said. "Firefighters rescued the worker by going through the window."

The worker refused medical help.

Northbound Michigan Avenue traffic was closed from Wacker to Ohio but traffic was back open an hour later.

The collapsed platform was visible about 10 stories up after the incident.

It was "high enough," a firefighter on the scene said.
