PORTAGE PARK — Small apartment buildings with roofs and porches in bad shape can apply for a city grant to cover the cost of repairs, city officials said.

Registration for the lottery that will determine who gets a grant — ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 — will take place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

Residents can apply online or by calling 311.

The lottery will be Oct. 19, and is limited to the repair or replacement of roofs or porches attached to one- to four-unit apartment buildings owned by individuals and families earning no more than 80 percent of the area median income in Chicago, officials said.

For more information, call 312-744-3653.
