LITTLE ITALY — Two people were robbed at gunpoint near the UIC campus, but then chased their attackers and held one until police arrived, authorities said.

At 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the two victims were in the 800 block of West Taylor Street when they were approached from behind by two people, police said. The attackers displayed a handgun and battered the victims, and the victims handed over "personal items," police said.

The two victims then followed their attackers and held one until police arrived.

Police arrested Eugene Langston, 58, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street. He was charged with felony aggravated robbery.

University of Illinois at Chicago police said one of the victims was a student whose wallet was taken.

The second man involved in the attack fled, officials said.
