CHICAGO — A bank robber's getaway from the Lincoln Square bank across the street from Welles Park was short-lived after a security guard blocked the exit, pepper-sprayed him and took him down, the FBI said.

Victor Delfi is now charged with Monday morning's robbery of Albany Bank at 4400 N. Western Ave., which briefly netted him $1,340, the FBI said.

A teller told FBI agents that the thief walked into the bank at 9:03 a.m. Monday and said something to the effect of "Give me your money. ... Find your keys, and give me the money. No dye," according to an FBI report.

He was wearing a nude-colored nylon over his face and carrying a gray bag over his shoulder, the FBI said.

The teller hit a panic button before giving Delfi the cash, which he put into his bag before trying to flee, the FBI said.

But a security guard blocked the exit, pepper-sprayed Delfi, forced him to the ground and cuffed him, police said.

The security guard had seen Delfi walk in with the mask and rob the teller.

"Don't move," the security guard told him, the FBI report said.

Crime in Wrigleyville + Boystown reported a passerby saw the robber putting on the nylon outside the bank. The witness then called 911. Chicago police arrived just as the security guard was arresting the thief, the site reported.
