$685,00 Teardown? 1890s West Town Cottage Slated For Demolition

EAST VILLAGE — A red brick cottage with white trim dating to the 1890s that recently sold for $685,000 will be torn down, according to a demolition permit issued to the property's new owner.

declined to comment on the impending demolition or what will replace the cottage. The Cook County Assessor's Office estimates the home to be 120 years old.

Though the home is not listed in the Chicago Historic Resources Survey — a database that is a basic starting point for assessing a building’s historic or architectural value —  eight other homes on the same block are included in the database, including 926 and 936 N. Wolcott Ave.

For the last 23 years, the home was owned by Abel and Maria Flores, who bought it for $136,000, county records show.

The Flores' sold their home for $685,000 on June 23 to an entity led by named Volo Holdings LLC-912 Wolcott Series, according to county records.
