CHICAGO — Two men died after being pulled from Lake Michigan early Saturday, police said.

Near the 5900 block of South Lake Shore Drive, a man was getting off a boat early Saturday when he fell into the water, according to the Sun-Times.

Jeremy Kennedy, 26, of the 5300 block of South Indiana Avenue, was found and pronounced dead at 3:21 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Later, at about 3:39 a.m. Saturday, police and rescue crews received a call that two people in the water north of Oak Street Beach were caught in "crashing waves."

Upon arrival, police learned a woman got out of the water but a man was thought to still be in the water.

The man was later recovered by a Fire Department rescue crew, but he died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to police. The man was identified as Christopher Charnow, 28, of Michigan, in Medical Examiner's Office records.

The National Weather Service issued a warning Friday of "life-threatening waves" in Lake Michigan through Saturday. The waves were expected to be smaller by Sunday.

After the deaths of the men, the Chicago Fire Department held a news conference where it reminded people to be wary of the waves and currents.

The Chicago Scene Boat Party, originally scheduled for Saturday, was rescheduled to noon Sunday due to the high waves in the lake, according to an Instagram post.
