WEST LAWN — A man is falsely advertising an apartment for rent in West Lawn only to steal people's security deposits, according to police.

The man has posted a fake apartment-for-rent ad at least four times, all in the 6000 block of South Pulaski Road, according to a community alert police issued Sunday. In the incidents, the man accepts rent or security deposits for an apartment that is not for rent, and the would-be renters cannot recoup their money, police said.

The incidents took place twice on July 11; once on July 13; and once on Tuesday, according to police.

The man is known by the names Byron Dean and Joseph Grant and is described as a black man between the ages of 35 and 37, standing 5-foot-10, weighing 200 pounds with black hair and a medium complexion.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call detectives at 312-747-8382.
