WEST TOWN — Two Wicker Park men believed responsible for home break-ins on the same West Town block were arrested after they fled the scene in a cab with stolen goods, police say.
Anthony Wickliffe , 23, and Darvell White, also 23, were arrested at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of North Wolcott Street when police stopped a cab the men were in, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
Wickliffe and White both live in the 2100 block of West Le Moyne Street in Wicker Park, police say.
Trainor said that officers conducting a follow-up burglary investigation in the 1800 block of West Erie Street on Wednesday watched live surveillance footage of the two walking through the alley while in possession of previously stolen goods.
The men had stashed stolen items in an alley earlier in the morning after breaking into two homes on the block by damaging back doors, according to Trainor. They had returned to get the items when police saw them on video.
After allegedly seeing Wickliffe and White get into a cab with stolen goods through the live video, the investigating officers were able to coordinate with other officers in the area to stop the cab a few blocks away from the homes.
Trainor said the men "were positively identified and in possession of stolen items."
Wickliffe and White are scheduled to appear in bond court on Thursday and face felony burglary charges.
