WEST LOOP — Vera wine bar and restaurant is closing this month, owners announced Wednesday.

The Spanish wine and coffee bar tucked beneath the "L" tracks at 1023 W. Lake St. will close for good on Saturday, July 29, Vera owners Liz and Mark Mendez wrote on Facebook Wednesday afternoon.

The husband-and-wife team wrote that the decision to close Vera was a difficult one.

"Quite simply we want to move on," they wrote. "To paraphrase another restaurateur, we want to sleep when we are tired and we want to eat when we are hungry. Sometimes living a rich, full life means letting go of something you love."

The owners thanked their regular customers who have celebrated "anniversaries, birthdays, rehearsal dinners and first dates" at the wine bar.

"Six years have flown by, we remember sitting in our restaurant for the first time so eager, so excited, so anxious to see who would come to our little wine bar, the couple wrote. "We would never have guessed how many wonderful people would come to eat, drink good wine, and celebrate with us."
